Breast Reduction indication

Breast Reduction in Mexico

Breast Reduction

Breast reduction — or reduction mammoplasty — removes excess breast tissue, fat and skin to restore proportionate, comfortable breasts. It is one of the most patient-satisfying operations in plastic surgery, with documented improvement in chronic pain, posture, exercise tolerance and quality of life.

The procedure preserves nipple sensation and (in most cases) breastfeeding capacity by maintaining a vascular and nerve pedicle to the nipple. Surgery lasts 3 to 4 hours under general anesthesia.

Who is a good candidate?

Adults with symptomatic macromastia — chronic neck, back, shoulder pain, postural changes, intertrigo, exercise limitation. In good general health, non-smokers, with stable weight. Often functional rather than purely cosmetic, frequently covered by insurance internationally.

Expected results

Breasts are smaller, lifted and proportional. Nipple is repositioned. Symptoms of macromastia resolve dramatically. Result is essentially final at 6 months. Permanent with stable weight; future pregnancy may affect the result.

Pedicle Techniques

The pedicle is the strip of tissue that supplies blood and nerves to the nipple after reduction. The choice of pedicle determines safety and aesthetic outcome.

  • 1. Superior pedicle — preferred

The pedicle comes from above. Gives reliable nipple viability, preserves sensation in 90% of cases, allows aggressive reduction. Argaman Plastic Surgeries Mexico's default technique.

  • 2. Inferior pedicle

The pedicle comes from below. Reliable for very large reductions but tends to give a less youthful breast shape long-term.

  • 3. Free nipple graft

Reserved for extremely large reductions. The nipple is removed and re-grafted. Loses sensation and breastfeeding capacity but allows safe reduction in giant breasts.

Incisions & Scars

Two main incision patterns:

  • 1. Wise (anchor) pattern

Around the areola + vertical line down + horizontal line in the inframammary fold. Used for moderate to large reductions. The most reliable for excess skin removal.

  • 2. Vertical (lollipop)

Around the areola + vertical line only, no horizontal scar. Suitable for smaller reductions. Less scarring but less skin redraping.

Breast Reduction Techniques

Wise Pattern (Anchor)

The reference technique for moderate to large reductions. Anchor-shaped scar but excellent shape and reliable result. Most often paired with superior pedicle.

Vertical (Lollipop)

Suitable for smaller reductions (under 500 g per side). Lollipop-shaped scar — less scarring than the Wise pattern. Excellent in selected patients.

Liposuction Reduction

For predominantly fatty breasts in patients with good skin elasticity. No major scar, no nipple repositioning. Limited indication — most reductions need parenchymal removal.

Free Nipple Graft

For extremely large breasts where pedicle vascularity would be compromised. The nipple is removed and re-grafted onto the new breast position. Loses sensation and breastfeeding. Reserved for specific cases.

Breast Reduction in Mexico — Step by Step

Your Consultation

Free online or in-person consultation. We assess breast size and symptoms, skin quality, nipple position and patient goals (especially regarding desired final size). Standardised photographs.

Before the Surgery

Pre-operative blood work, medical clearance, mammogram (women 35+), breast ultrasound when indicated. Stop smoking 4 weeks before. Stable weight for 6 months.

The Day of Surgery

Fasting at the accredited hospital. Surgery lasts 3 to 4 hours under general anesthesia. One night in the hospital.

After the Surgery

Daily M.D. home visits at the hotel for 7 days. Surgical bra 24/7 for 6 weeks. Sutures absorbable. Return to desk work at 10–14 days. Final result at 6 months.

Recovery After Breast Reduction

First 7 days

Mild to moderate discomfort, well controlled with medication. Surgical bra 24/7. Sleep on the back, head elevated. No lifting more than 2 kg. Many patients report immediate relief from the back-pain symptoms.

Weeks 2 to 4

Most acute swelling resolves. Return to desk work at 10–14 days. Light walking. No lifting more than 5 kg.

Weeks 4 to 12

Surgical bra to 6 weeks. Light cardio at 4 weeks, full exercise at 8 weeks. Scars start to mature.

Long-term care

Final result at 6 months. Permanent with stable weight. Annual mammogram as appropriate for age.

Risks and Complications

General Surgical Risks

Infection, hematoma, asymmetry, suboptimal scarring. All uncommon and well managed.

Nipple-related Concerns

Temporary nipple sensitivity changes are common; permanent loss of sensation is rare (<5%) with the superior pedicle technique. Nipple necrosis (loss of viability) is exceptionally rare (<1%) and is mitigated by careful pedicle design.

Breastfeeding

The superior pedicle preserves breastfeeding capacity in approximately 70% of patients. Free nipple graft technique loses breastfeeding entirely. Discuss future plans during consultation.

How Argaman Plastic Surgeries Mexico Minimises Risks

Board-certified surgeons, accredited facilities, careful pedicle design, mammogram screening before surgery, mandatory smoking cessation, daily medical follow-up.

Symptom Relief & Quality of Life

Documented Benefits

Breast reduction has the highest patient-satisfaction score of any plastic-surgery procedure (over 95% in published series). Documented benefits include resolution of back, neck and shoulder pain, postural improvement, elimination of bra-strap grooving, resolution of intertrigo and significant improvement in exercise tolerance.

Pain Relief

Most patients report immediate relief from chronic back/neck/shoulder pain — often within the first week post-op. The reduction in breast weight changes spinal mechanics and shoulder posture.

Exercise & Activity

Patients describe a transformative ability to exercise — running, yoga, weight training — that was previously impossible. This often leads to additional weight loss and overall health improvement.

Insurance Considerations

Internationally, breast reduction is often partially covered by insurance when symptoms and minimum tissue removal are documented. Argaman Plastic Surgeries Mexico provides standardised pre-op documentation that international patients can submit to their insurer for partial reimbursement.

FAQ about Breast Reduction
in Mexico

How is breast reduction performed?

Excess breast tissue, fat and skin are excised through an anchor-shaped or lollipop-shaped incision. The nipple is preserved on a vascular and nerve pedicle (typically superior) and repositioned to its new location. The remaining tissue is reshaped to create a more youthful breast contour. Surgery lasts 3 to 4 hours under general anesthesia.

Will I be able to breastfeed after a breast reduction?

With the superior pedicle technique, approximately 70% of patients retain breastfeeding capacity. With free nipple graft (very large reductions), breastfeeding is lost. Discuss future plans with your surgeon during consultation.

Will my nipples have sensation after the surgery?

In most cases yes — the superior pedicle preserves nerve supply to the nipple, with sensation retained in approximately 90% of patients. Temporary changes in the early post-op period are common and typically resolve.

How much does breast reduction cost in Mexico City?

Argaman Plastic Surgeries Mexico's all-inclusive breast reduction package starts at $3,700 USD. Combined with abdominoplasty (Mommy Makeover): $7,800 USD.

Will I have visible scars?

Yes — breast reduction leaves either an anchor-shaped scar (around the areola, down the breast, along the inframammary fold) or a lollipop-shaped scar (around the areola, down the breast). Scars mature from red to white over 12 to 18 months.

When can I exercise after a breast reduction?

Light walking from day 1. Light cardio at 4 weeks. Full exercise (including upper-body) at 8 weeks. Surgical bra 24/7 for 6 weeks.

How long do the results last?

Permanent with stable weight. Future pregnancy can affect the result; we recommend completing your family before surgery when possible.

Is breast reduction painful?

Mild to moderate discomfort for 5 to 7 days, well controlled with prescribed medication. Many patients report relief from chronic back pain that outweighs the surgical discomfort.
